TVRO Members’ Area
The Thames Valley Recorder Orchestra is currently looking to recruit more bass, great bass and contrabass players. If you would like to join this enthusiastic and musical band of recorder players, please use our contact form here.
TVRO members should scroll down for information about rehearsal and concert dates.
The minimum standard to join the orchestra is grade 6 level, although this is a nominal requirement as many recorder players haven’t taken any exams on the instrument. We rehearse from 2.30 to 5.30pm on one Sunday per month (usually the 2nd Sunday of the month), from October to June, at Knowl Hill village hall, The Terrace, Knowl Hill, Reading, Berkshire. RG10 9XB. For two rehearsals we will hold an extended rehearsal to allow us more preparation time.
Rehearsal dates for 2026/7 Season:
11 October, 8 November, 13 December, 17 January, 14 February, 14 March, 11 April, 9 May, 13 June, 11 July, 12 September, 10 October.
Concert on the afternoon of Sunday 14th November 2027, preceded by a short rehearsal of 60-90 minutes, venue to be confirmed.
Please note one of our 2026/7 rehearsals is on the 3rd Sunday of the month because of unavoidable clashes with a recorder orchestra course. It may be that our April rehearsal has to be shifted a month later if it clashes with the SRP Festival - as soon as the Festival dates are confirmed this page will be updated as necessary.
For this season players must attend at least nine of the twelve rehearsals if they are to play in the concert. This should help make rehearsals more consistent and ensure we have a stress free concert as everyone will be well prepared.
We have extended the 2026/27 season, so as to shift our concert to a cooler time of year - it has become increasingly difficult to perform in June as the summer weather has grown ever hotter. 2027 is also our 20th anniversary year, so the extended rehearsal period will give us time to explore fresh repertoire to see which pieces really suit the orchestra before selecting a final concert programme.
Member fees for the 2026/27 season are £130, for twelve rehearsal sessions and the day of our concert.
